Publishing your design

When your design is ready, you can publish it as a live webpage directly from Viro. Viro handles the hosting and secure HTTPS connection, so you do not need to purchase a separate website-hosting plan.

In your design, select Publish, then Publish design (or Publish site for a design with several pages). Viro puts it on a public link like theviro.app/d/your-design. Select Change Viro URL to pick a shorter or easier name.

After making changes, select Republish to update the live version. Your latest edits don't appear publicly until you republish.

From the Publish window, you can also:

• Copy the live URL
• Open the published design in a new tab
• Unpublish the design when you no longer want it publicly available

Unpublishing takes the page offline right away, so the link stops working, but it doesn't delete the design from your Viro account. You can publish it again later.

You can use a domain you already own—such as www.yourbusiness.com—instead of the default Viro URL.

First, publish your design to its Viro URL. Then:

1. Open the Publish design window.
2. Under Custom domain, enter the domain you want to connect.
3. Select Add domain.
4. Add the TXT and CNAME records shown by Viro at your domain provider.
5. Return to Viro and select Verify connection.

The TXT record confirms that you control the domain. The CNAME record directs visitors to your published Viro design.

Copy the DNS values directly from Viro. Verification values are unique to each domain.

DNS changes often appear within a few minutes, but can occasionally take up to 48 hours because of DNS caching.

When adding the Viro CNAME record in Cloudflare, set Proxy status to DNS only, shown as a gray cloud, while connecting and verifying the domain.

You can purchase a domain from a registrar such as Porkbun and then connect it to Viro.

You only need to purchase the domain itself. You do not need to buy a Porkbun web-hosting plan—Viro hosts the published design and provides its secure connection.

1. Visit Porkbun and create an account.
2. Search for the domain name you want.
3. Select an available domain and add it to your cart.
4. Check the spelling carefully before purchasing. A registered domain name cannot be edited afterward.
5. During checkout, skip the optional web-hosting add-on unless you need it for something unrelated to Viro.
6. Complete the purchase and return to Viro.

Email hosting is also optional and is not required to publish a Viro design.

First, publish your design using its Viro URL. Then open the Publish design window and follow these steps.

Under Custom domain, enter the www version of your domain. For example:

www.yourdomain.com

1. Select Add domain.
2. Keep the Viro window open. Viro will display two DNS records:
   • A TXT record that verifies ownership
   • A CNAME record that directs the domain to Viro
3. Open another browser tab and sign in to Porkbun.
4. Go to Account → Domain Management.
5. Find your domain and select DNS beneath it. You may also select Details, then the edit icon beside DNS Records.
6. Select Add Record.

Porkbun will ask for the record type, host, answer or value, and TTL. Leave TTL at its default setting unless Viro instructs otherwise.

Copy the TXT record shown in Viro and enter it into Porkbun.

Select Add to save the record.

The verification value is unique to your domain. Do not copy the example above—use the complete value displayed in your Viro Publish window.

Select Add Record again and enter the CNAME information shown by Viro.

For a www domain, the record will usually look like this:

Leave TTL at its default setting, then select Add. In Porkbun, the Host field normally contains only the subdomain portion, such as www. Porkbun automatically adds the rest of your domain.

A newly purchased domain may already contain DNS records that point to Porkbun’s default parking page. These may include records that point to pixie.porkbun.com.

A CNAME Host must be unique. If Porkbun says that a CNAME or ALIAS record with the same Host already exists:

1. Scroll to Current Records.
2. Find the existing record using the Host www.
3. Confirm that it is a parking record or an old hosting record.
4. Delete the conflicting record.
5. Add the Viro CNAME record again.

Do not delete unrelated MX records or email-verification records if you use the domain for email. See Porkbun’s guide to resolving a conflicting CNAME or ALIAS record.

After saving both DNS records:

1. Return to the Publish design window in Viro.
2. Select Verify connection.
3. Once the records are found and the connection is ready, the domain status will change to Connected.

New Porkbun DNS records often begin resolving quickly. Updates to existing records may take around ten minutes, although caching on individual networks and devices can sometimes make changes take longer to appear.

The instructions above connect:

www.yourdomain.com

To also send visitors from:

yourdomain.com

to your Viro design, you can create a forwarding rule in Porkbun.

1. Open Domain Management.
2. Select Details beside the domain.
3. Select the edit icon beside URL Forwarding.
4. Leave Hostname blank.
5. Under Forward Traffic To, enter:

   https://www.yourdomain.com

6. Turn off wildcard forwarding.
7. Under advanced settings, enable the option to include the requested URL path.
8. Save the forwarding rule.

Visitors who enter yourdomain.com will then be redirected to www.yourdomain.com. See Porkbun’s guide to setting up URL forwarding.

Review your design carefully before sharing it publicly. Check that:

• Text, prices, claims, and contact information are accurate
• Buttons and links lead to the correct destinations
• Placeholder text and images have been replaced
• The design works well on both desktop and mobile
• Forms and interactive elements work as expected
• You have permission to use any uploaded images, logos, fonts, or other content
