Personas

Personas are AI characters with their own personality, style, and background. Chat with one made by the community, try a featured persona, or create your own. Personas can also talk together in Rooms and star in Stories.

   Open Personas

   Select Personas in the sidebar.

   Find one you like

   Browse Community (search, or sort by Popular, Trending, or New) or Try These for featured personas.

   Start chatting

   Select a persona, then tap Say hi or type your own message.

Persona chats always run on Viro AI. Each one reminds you that you're chatting with an AI persona, not a real person.

On the Personas page, select Create a persona and fill in:

• Photo (optional)
• Name — up to 50 characters
• Personality — required
• Style & Communication and Background / Role — optional
• Gender — Male, Female, Non-binary, or Prefer not to say
• Chat background (optional) — a photo behind your chats with this persona

Select Save. You can have up to 20 personas. Find them under My Personas, where you can edit or delete them.

Turn on Publish to Discover when creating or editing, or choose Submit to Discover on the persona in My Personas. You'll pick a public username (3–20 letters, numbers, or underscores).

The Viro team reviews every submission. Its status shows as In Review, then Published or Not Approved. While a persona is in review or published, select Unpublish to edit it. Approval means a persona meets Viro's community and safety rules, not that Viro endorses it.

Yes. Add a Chat background when you create or edit the persona, and your chats with it use that photo instead of your usual one. A photo you set on a single chat still wins over it.

If you share the persona, its background is part of what the Viro team reviews, and once the persona is published everyone who chats with it sees that photo. While it is a draft or in review, only you see it. For your own backgrounds, see Appearance.

Yes. On a persona's page, What {name} remembers about you shows what it has picked up from your chats, like your relationship, topics, tone, and goals. Only you can see it, and you can clear it with Forget.

You can also add Notes: facts you want the persona to always know. The persona can read notes but never changes them. Your regular memory still applies in persona chats.

Fiction can still explore dark themes. These rules apply to every persona, including ones you create. They're a design measure, not a crisis service, so if you're in danger, contact your local emergency number. See Is Viro AI Legit and Safe?
