Open Viro

    Is Viro AI Eco-Friendly?

Yes. Viro AI runs on 100% clean energy-powered infrastructure, with zero fossil fuels. For the other models in Viro, Viro funds new renewable energy to cover the electricity your chats use, and it shows you the energy of every message.

    Is Viro AI actually eco-friendly?

Here's what's behind the claim, so you can judge for yourself:

    • Clean power. Viro AI runs in data centers in Iceland, Norway, Ireland, and Finland, on grids powered by hydro, geothermal, and wind. It's clean by where it runs, not by carbon offsets. See Our Data Centers.
    • Right-sized models. Viro AI sends simple questions to small, efficient models and saves larger models for complex tasks. Based on Viro's usage data, that cuts estimated energy use by roughly 14x compared with sending every request to the most capable model.
    • Little water. Its data centers are cooled by cold outside air and closed-loop systems that recirculate water instead of evaporating it. See Does Viro AI Use Water?
    • Nothing hidden. Every reply shows an estimate of the energy it used, and the ⚡ number at the top of the app shows your total. See Energy & Impact.
    • No offsets. Viro doesn't use carbon offsets or carbon credits. It funds new renewable energy generation, and its remaining profits fund climate restoration, starting with The Ocean Cleanup.

    What makes an AI eco-friendly?

Every AI reply is computed in a data center, so an AI's footprint comes down to three things: where its electricity comes from, how much computing each answer takes, and how the data center is cooled. Many AI models run wholly or partly on fossil fuels, send every request to a large model, and run in data centers cooled by evaporating water.

Viro AI addresses all three: clean power, models sized to each request, and cooling that recirculates water.

Are ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini eco-friendly in Viro?

They run in their providers' own data centers, which run wholly or partly on fossil fuels. In Viro, they're labeled Energy matched: Viro funds new renewable energy generation to cover the electricity your chats with them use. For the model that runs on 100% clean energy, choose Viro AI, which is the default. See AI Models.

    What isn't counted yet?

Viro's energy estimate covers the electricity used to generate each reply. It doesn't yet include making AI hardware, building data centers, or training the models in the first place. Viro plans to add these as reliable research on them matures. The Energy & Impact Methodology lists every source and assumption.

How can I make my AI use greener?

    • Use Viro AI. It's the model that runs on 100% clean energy.
    • Start a new chat for a new topic. Long conversations make each reply read more context, which takes more energy.
    • Create images when you need them. An image adds about 2 Wh to a message, while a typical text reply uses a fraction of a watt-hour.
    • Go further with Supercharged. Every message funds 10 times more clean energy. See Supercharged Plan.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is Viro AI eco-friendly?

Yes. Viro AI runs on 100% clean energy-powered infrastructure with zero fossil fuels, in data centers in Iceland, Norway, Ireland, and Finland. Viro funds new renewable energy to cover the electricity other models use in Viro, and it doesn't use carbon offsets.

What is the most environmentally friendly AI?

Look for an AI that runs on clean energy, sizes its models to each request, and runs in data centers that don't evaporate their cooling water. Viro AI does all three: it runs on 100% clean energy with zero fossil fuels, sends simple questions to small, efficient models, and is cooled by cold air and closed-loop systems.

    Does Viro use carbon offsets?

No. Viro doesn't use carbon offsets or carbon credits. It funds new renewable energy generation, and its remaining profits fund climate restoration.
