Desktop App

You can install Viro on a Mac or a Windows PC straight from your browser. It gets its own icon, its own window, and no tabs or address bar, so it sits alongside your other apps instead of getting lost among your open pages. There's nothing to download and no installer to run.

Use whichever browser you prefer. Both take a few seconds.

   Open Viro in Safari

   Go to ai.viro.app and sign in.

   Open the File menu

   In the menu bar at the top of the screen, select File, then Add to Dock.

   Name it and add it

   Keep the name Viro or change it, then select Add. Viro appears in your Dock.

Add to Dock needs macOS Sonoma or later. If you don't see it in the File menu, use Chrome or Edge instead.

   Open Viro in your browser

   Go to ai.viro.app and sign in.

   Select the install icon

   It appears at the right-hand end of the address bar and looks like a screen with a downward arrow. If you don't see it, open the browser menu (⋮ in Chrome, ⋯ in Edge) and look for Install.

   Confirm

   Select Install. Viro opens in its own window and is added to your Applications folder and Launchpad.

   Go to ai.viro.app and sign in.

   Select the install icon

   It appears at the right-hand end of the address bar and looks like a screen with a downward arrow. If you don't see it, open the browser menu (⋯ in Edge, ⋮ in Chrome) and look for Install.

   Confirm

   Select Install. Viro opens in its own window and is added to your Start menu.

   Pin it to your taskbar

   Optional. Right-click the Viro icon in the taskbar while it's open and select Pin to taskbar, so it's one click away.

• Viro runs in its own window, with no tabs and no address bar.
• It has its own icon in your Dock, taskbar, or Start menu.
• It shows up when you switch apps, so Cmd + Tab on a Mac or Alt + Tab on Windows reaches it.
• It opens quickly, because the app loads from your computer instead of downloading each time.

Everything inside works exactly as it does in the browser, and you'll always have the current version. There are no updates to install.

If you installed from Chrome or Edge, no. The installed app shares your browser's sign-in, so you carry on where you left off.

If you used Safari's Add to Dock, yes, once. A web app added to the Dock keeps its own separate sign-in from Safari itself. Sign in the first time you open it and it stays signed in after that.

The app window opens without a connection, but you need to be online to send a message or get a reply, the same as on the web. Your chat history loads once you reconnect.

Not on your computer. Notifications come from the Viro apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android. See What is Viro? for where to get those.

• Safari (Mac): drag the Viro icon out of your Dock, or delete Viro from your Applications folder.
• Chrome: open the Viro window, select the ⋮ menu, then Uninstall Viro.
• Edge: go to edge://apps, then select the three dots next to Viro and Uninstall.

Removing the app doesn't touch your account or your chats. You can still use Viro at ai.viro.app, and you can install it again any time.
